Mercana Furniture & Décor

Limited Warranty Policy

Mercana stands behind the materials and workmanship of every piece we design. This policy sets out what is covered, for how long, and where each product is intended to be used.

Last updated October 2026

1.  Overview

Mercana Furniture & Décor Ltd. (“Mercana”, “we”, “us”, “our”) stands behind the materials and workmanship of every piece we design. This Limited Warranty sets out two levels of coverage:

Standard Limited Warranty

Residential Use. Applies to the full Mercana assortment.

Contract Grade Limited Warranty

Applies only to products designated “Contract Grade” on our website or product marketing, when used in an approved contract environment (see Section 2).

Who is covered. This Limited Warranty applies to products purchased directly from Mercana or from a Mercana authorized dealer or partner. It is limited to the original purchaser from Mercana and does not transfer to any subsequent purchaser or end user.

What we warrant. Mercana warrants its products against defects in materials and workmanship, subject to the material-specific terms in Section 4 (the “Warranty”). Where a product does not conform to the Warranty, Mercana will, at its option, repair it, replace it with the same item or an item of equal value as determined by Mercana, or issue a credit to the original purchaser. Mercana pays the freight on a replacement item. Where a credit is issued instead, it covers the product price only; the original freight and delivery costs are not credited, and any freight costs are the responsibility of the purchaser.

Duration. The limited warranty period (the “Duration”) begins on the date of invoice or shipment, as shown in Mercana’s records, and runs for the period listed in Section 2.

2.  Coverage Periods and Use

The Limited Warranty Duration depends on how a product is designated and where it is used. Where a product specification page on our website lists a longer Duration, that page applies.

Residential Use

Residential Use refers to products placed in a private, single-family home and used under normal household conditions. The Standard Limited Warranty does not cover products used in any commercial or contract setting, including home staging, events, or offices and retail spaces.

Contract Grade Use

Contract Grade products are built for light to moderate commercial use, with more frequent use and cleaning than a typical home. Contract Grade coverage applies to the whole product, including frame, upholstery and finishes, subject to the material-specific terms in Section 4. Approved contract environments include:

  • Home staging and model homes
  • Short-term and furnished rentals
  • Offices, reception areas and meeting rooms
  • Retail showrooms and design studios
  • Restaurant and café dining areas, under normal operating hours

Contract Grade is not hospitality grade. The Contract Grade Limited Warranty does not cover high-traffic, continuous-use environments with constant patron turnover, including bars, nightclubs, 24-hour food service, hotel guest rooms, lobbies and public areas, event and party rental inventory, healthcare, education, or any outdoor use.

Mercana may deny a claim where it reasonably believes a product was used in a manner or environment for which it was not designated.

3.  What Is Not Covered

The Warranty covers defects in materials and workmanship only. It does not cover:

  • Misuse or abuse, including improper storage or handling, prolonged exposure to moisture, extreme temperature or humidity, or unconventional conditions
  • Use outside the designated environment (Section 2), including commercial use of products with only a Standard Limited Warranty
  • Modifications or alterations, or attachment of accessories not supplied by Mercana
  • Use of improper cleaning products, or failure to follow the care instructions supplied with the product
  • Damage caused by contact with other products
  • Wear and tear, including abrasion, scratches and fading from regular use
  • Fit and appearance issues caused by site conditions, such as uneven floors, weak walls or varying room dimensions
  • Products sold “AS IS”, floor demo or display pieces, and samples
  • Differences between the product purchased and printed materials, photos, videos or online representations
  • Marketing, photography or online listings created by the purchaser or the purchaser’s customers
  • Customer’s own material (COM) supplied for a product

4.  Material-Specific Terms

Many Mercana pieces are made with natural and handcrafted materials. Their variation is part of the design and is not a defect.

Natural materials. Products made with wood, plants, stone, minerals, shells and animal by-products are covered. Natural variation and change over time are not defects, including differences in grain or colour, hairline cracks in highly figured veneers from natural wood movement, and colour or surface change from ageing or exposure to extreme temperature or direct sunlight.

Upholstery. Fabrics, leathers, cushions and fill are covered, except for: natural leather markings, colour variation, wrinkles, scratches, insect bites and healed scars; fading or surface change from extreme temperature or direct sunlight; wrinkling, puckering or shade variation in washed fabrics; and stains from spills, soiling or contact with other substances.

Finishes. Finishes are covered against cracking, peeling and blistering when cleaned and maintained according to the product care instructions. Abrasions, scratches or chips from use, normal fading, spill stains, and damage from chemicals, cleaning agents or solvents are not covered. Mercana uses several finishing methods, including nitrocellulose lacquer and polyurethane, so care requirements vary by product.

Fragile materials. Glass, mirror, ceramic and natural stone (including marble and granite) can be damaged by impact, handling or installation. Chips, cracks or breaks occurring after delivery are not covered.

Handmade art. Studio M art is handmade in-house. This clause also applies to any Mercana art with hand embellishment, such as hand-applied paint, texture or gilding over a printed image. Variation in brushwork, texture, colour, embellishment and canvas between pieces is expected and is not a defect.

Lighting and electrical components. Hard-wired lighting, including chandeliers, pendants and wall sconces, must be installed by a licensed electrician. Claims for hard-wired lighting must include proof of installation by a licensed electrician, such as an invoice or work order. The following are not covered for lighting:

  • Outdoor use. Lighting installed outdoors or in covered outdoor living spaces is exposed to humidity, sunlight, pollutants and temperature change, and surfaces naturally change over time. Fading, discolouration, patina or deterioration of finishes or natural materials on lighting used outdoors is not covered.
  • Wind. Damage to hanging fixtures caused by wind, including fixtures not properly secured or sheltered in exposed locations.
  • Coastal environments. Within 16 km (10 miles) of a seacoast, salt air is highly corrosive, and finishes and components deteriorate faster even with regular maintenance. Corrosion and finish deterioration in these environments are considered wear and tear and are not covered.
  • Modifications. Rewiring, modification or customization of a fixture after delivery, unless approved in writing by Mercana.
  • Installation and electrical issues. Issues caused by not following assembly or installation instructions; components not supplied with the product; improper or insufficient support or mounting; incompatible voltage, switches, dimmers or control systems; or power surges and other electrical issues.

Mechanical components. Moving parts, including swivel mechanisms, extension table slides, drawer glides, gas lifts and any motion or power-motion hardware, are covered for the same Duration as the product they are part of. Coverage includes failure of the mechanism under normal use. It does not cover damage from overloading, improper assembly or installation, forcing the mechanism, lack of routine maintenance described in the care instructions, or wear and tear such as reduced smoothness or minor noise over time. Powered components must be connected according to the product instructions; damage from power surges or improper electrical connection is not covered.
